iTunes, Facebook, Twitter: The ultimate threesome

15 Mar

Three is the new social media magic number, don’t you know?

We love the end of the week at JJ towers, it’s when our statto drops a hefty missive through our cyber-letterbox chronicling the week’s action in “hit form”. It tells us how many have consumed our food for the soul on 3 of our media; iTunes, Facebook and Twitter.

There are some pretty graphs, some impressive numbers and our favourite thing, Screen-grabs. The selection this week included a screen-grab of our new iTunes page, and pretty in pink it looks too, together with some storming performances for The Cabcast, Pick of the Pods and the welcome return of the Co-operative Championship Podcast, detailing all things Rugby League.

But of course the “three amigoes” are not our only outlets. Throw into the mix random rants from cabbies on Audioboo and the penetration of our feeds on the many other podcast catchers, WordPress and a cacophony of other media and it’s incredible to see how if you have a voice, there’s a million ways to get it heard.

As a user and provider we’re spoilt for choice with so many free and excellent applications and every day they continue to grow in number. A quick peak at this years South by Southwest festival (SXSW) sees creative people the world over are positively blooming with the next big thing.

Just three years ago Twitter burst onto the scene at SXSW and look how far 140 characters has taken them now. There’s no doubt for us, iTunes, Facebook and Twitter generate the most traffic, but just how big a part location and gamification will help those already major players bloom waits to be seen.

When we started six years ago now social media was a very different place, and the subsequent impact the now “social media movement” has had cannot be underestimated. For JJ towers, Twitter generates news, Facebook is news and iTunes allows us to escape from it, but all three heavy-weights have great representation in their corner and younger upstarts ready to hit them with a kapow.
